Smoothie Bowl Recipe
Okay ladies, let’s get on a topic we all really love… FOOD! Well, smoothies at least. Same thing. Anyways, with summer rolling in hot (get it?), it’s the perfect time to start breaking out all the tasty and healthy smoothie recipes we love! Don’t get me wrong, I love a hot fudge sundae as much as the next girl, but when you find something that tastes this good AND has so many benefits for you, you’ll be a smoothie convert in no time. Now – sit back, grab a snack, and let’s dive into this recipe!
What You’ll Need
Okay, first things first – ingredients! Of course these are all just my preferences, so feel free to add or change things per your taste. It’s all about making sure you LOVE the taste and the ingredients!
Ingredients to be Blended:
- 5 frozen bananas
- 2 handfuls of baby spinach
- 4 tbsp of almond butter
- handful of granola
- 1 1/2 cups of rice milk
- 2 handfuls of ice (for consistency)
Toppings (All Optional):
- dragon fruit
- chocolate chips
- sliced almonds
- coconut shavings
Start by blending together the bananas, spinach, almond butter, granola, ice, and coconut milk. Feel free to substitute coconut milk for almond milk or to swap out different fruits to your preferred taste. Blend a little longer for a smooth, lump free consistency or keep it a little thicker by blending for less time!
Now while your deliciousness is blending, let’s talk about the big question: why these ingredients? What are they doing for me? The real question is what are they NOT doing for you!
Bananas – mmmm, my favorite fruit ever! Bananas are amazing, especially for women! They help reduce cramps (yes, even those cramps… thanks a lot, Mother Nature), they’re notorious for being a “brain power fruit,” and they help strengthen your bones! They’re also known to help curve morning sickness… and for my gals who are NOT on that journey, they cure hangovers, too. So everybody wins, right? #GoBananas
Spinach – Where are my Popeye lovers?! If you’re not in the know, the antioxidants and muscle-power-goodness of spinach have gotten my good friend Popeye the Sailor-Man out of many sticky situations. If you’re not so much into the whole muscle benefits (AKA Moi), it’s also AMAZING for your skin! Tons of green fruits and veggies are so great for keeping your skin clear and fighting off nasty below-the-surface bacteria.
Coconut Milk – Girrrrrrrl. This is the one. This is the one you need. I’ve always loved dairy milk. Like… I wanted to own a cow so I could have milk whenever I wanted… don’t judge. But as I grew up I started to become aware of some of the things I didn’t love so much about dairy milk (some health concerns, treatment of cows, etc. but we won’t get into all of that), so I realized I needed an alternative. After some Googling and research, I settled on almond milk and coconut milk. Once I read all of the health benefits of coconut milk, I was SOLD! If you’re on a weight loss journey, coconut milk has been linked to weight-loss as well!
Benefits of Other Ingredients
Now let’s talk about all of the health benefits of some of the topping products! A lot of these toppings are packed with health benefits (maybe not the chocolate chips, but we don’t have to talk about that) and are so yummy and SO good for you! Of course all of these toppings are optional and you should add some that YOU love, but let me tell you why I love all of these so much!
- Raspberries & Blueberries: these two are obvious! They’re both packed with antioxidants and studies show they help lower the risk of certain cancers, plus they’re great if you’re on a weight loss journey!
- Dragon Fruit: Dragon fruit is a little more on the rare or unpopular side, but they’re soooo good. They’re super high in Vitamin A, they help keep your kidneys and heart strong, and they clear your skin up!
- Coconut Shavings: Even though it’s in shavings form, all of the benefits of coconut is still there! Which means you’re getting a metabolism boost, a good dose of lauric acid, and it’ll keep your hair, skin, and nails healthy and feeling great.
